I Simply Adore You-MFT Coloring Virtuoso Card Design Superstar

It’s Wednesday, which means I survived the all-day conference at work yesterday! It also means I get to share with you how I went a little obsessive/compulsive this weekend.

This week is the MFT Card Design Superstar contest. This is an annual contest MFT host, which is broken down into three categories, Clean & Simple Genius, Coloring Virtuoso, and Innovation Master. This challenge is a bit different them most, as this is a judged contest (instead of randomly drawn winners). There are random winners as well, but, JUDGED. There are more details about the contest here.

Today I’m sharing the card I made for MFT’s Card Design Superstar, Coloring Virtuoso. This is my first time participating in the coloring portion of the Card Design Superstar challenge. I fully admit that I can not color with Copic markers the way others that enter the challenge can. But, the MFT blog post did say the judges were looking for “Fresh Approaches,” and really, it’s mostly Copic coloring. So, I decided to enter with my favorite watercolor technique. I’m putting myself out there, I will admit. But, I love how this card turned out.

I started out by stamping the images from MFT’s Scribbled Roses on a piece of Distress Watercolor cardstock with Versamark ink, then heat embossing it with Wow Opaque White powder. Then I made mask for the images, and masked them off.

I sprinkled some Blue Blitz Nuvo Shimmer Powder on the watercolor panel, and spritzed it with water. Then, I covered the area around the flower and added Catherine Wheel Nuvo Shimmer Power to the flower, and added more water. I finished off the flower with Altenew watercolors.

I trimmed the panel down and added it to a Neenah Classic Crest Solar White card base. I stamped the sentiment from MFT’s From the Heart with Extreme Black ink, and die cut it with one of the sentiment dies from MFT’s Vertical Hearts in a Row. I added the sentiment with foam tape.

I happened to have tried this with another panel, only I hadn’t masked off the area around the flower, and the Catherine powder went everywhere. I decided to die cut the flower from this panel, to add some dimension.

It’s not perfect marker coloring, or traditional watercolor, but it’s bright, vibrant and, a fresh approach. At least, I think so! Not to mention, all that shimmer!!

Are you planning to participate in the Card Design Superstar challenge? Even if you don’t think you can match the talents of previous winners, there is still the opportunity to be chosen in the random drawing, with $100 gift card reward. Let me know below if you are entering!

Thanks for stopping by,

Nicole
