It’s Friday! After such a stressful week, I am more then happy to welcome the weekend. Especially since last weekend was so crazy!
Today’s post features the card I made for the MFT Card Design Superstar contest, the Clean & Simple Genius category.
I’ve participated in the Clean & Simple Genius category for the last two years. This year, I got a bit hung up on the description “Clever uses of our product,” & “Fresh Approach.” Like, I spent all weekend making clean & simple cards, trying to be clever and use a fresh approach. It got out of hand. And, of course I ended up choosing the last card I made as the entry for the contest. Then I spent the rest of the week second guessing myself.
I started out by cutting the baby clothes from MFT’s Baby Clothes, from MFT’s Candy Land patterned paper (except for the dress, which is MFT’s Tickled Pink cardstock). I also cut them from MFT’s Gold Sparkle cardstock, for a shadow effect. I glued them together with liquid adhesive.
I folded a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock into a card base, then strung a piece of gold twine across it. I rubbed some liquid adhesive across the twine first, as it was a bit rough looking.
Next, I added some foam circles to the back of the clothes, and worked out the layout. I laid the card in my MISTI, and stamped the sentiment from MFT’s Welcome Baby with MFT Extreme Black ink. Then, I adhered the clothes to the card panel.
This is where I started to go a little “Nicole,” and messed with the card more. I felt that it just didn’t have that wow factor, the thing that made it clever, or make it a different approach.
I made mask for the clothes and the sentiment, then sprayed a subtle, shimmer ink spray on the card. It’s from an old Hero Arts kit. It’s a faint metallic gray head on, but at an angel, or in the right light, it’s gold. I added a picture of the card in shade, so you could see the gold. I also trimmed a little off the card front and added a strip of Gold Sparkle cardsock.
I thought the splatters on the front were a fun play on the sentiment inside the card, from Welcome Baby. Like, splattered clothes, or maybe suds.
After all of the cards I made, (7 to be exact), this one was the one I felt had something different. I hope the judges feel the same.
I’ll share the other cards I made in a few weeks. I have blog post lined up for the rest of the month, so it’ll have to wait till October.
