Challenges · Making Cards

New York-Altenew

Happy Friday! I’m kicking off this weekend with a little bit fewer sparkles then last weekend. But, this card may be closer to my heart.

This card was inspired by the Altenew April Inspiration Challenge. This month’s challenge image features bright colors and fun images.

When I first saw this image, I immediately thought of the New York stamp set I recently picked up from Altenew. I had already made a card similar to the one I made today, only with more color. It was something I made just playing around, so I didn’t create a blog post. However, I’ll share it below as a bonus card.

I kept the inspiration colors as well. I knew that I was going to make the Statue of Liberty pink, otherwise I wasn’t too picky about how the colors lined up. This probably would have worked a little more smoothly with ink cubes, but I only had full size oval pads in these colors.

I inked up the statue and center of this stamp first, using Pinkalicous (from Altnew, all of the inks are Altenew). Next I cleaned the stamp and added Buttercream to the right side. I repeated this with Caribbean Sky on the left (forgot to wipe the ink off of the statue this time). I let the ink dry a bit, then stamped the sentiment from the New York set with Versafine Clair ink in Nocturne, then heat embossed it with clear powder.

I added the panel to a Gina K Design Slate card base with fun foam and added a few Iridescent clear gems from Lucy’s Cards.

I wasn’t really sure about how I felt about the overlapping ink at first. I literally was reaching for a new piece of cardstock to start over, but stopped myself. I’m sure it’s not a surprise, I made this card with my daughter in mind. In fact, I purchased this stamp set for her, so I could make her New York themed cards. This set is perfect for a girl who is living her dream in the city.

I also thought about some of her recent photography work. She’s been testing out double exposing film, with some stunning results. Where the ink overlaps, especially the blue/pink, reminds me of her work. I’m sure she’ll love this, but since I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read this blog, I should be safe.

Image may contain: 3 people, including Caitlin Wilkinson, people smiling, people standing

So, I decided to embrace the card the way it is, since it’s meant for Caitlin and reflects her and her most recent art.

Hopefully I don’t get into too much trouble sharing her picture!

Oh, I almost forgot, the bonus card.

For this card, I scribbled some color into the stamp with Distress markers in a rainbow. Then I spritzed the stamp with water and stamped it on watercolor cardstock. I stamped the sentiment from the set on a strip of Slate cardstock and heat embossed it in white. The card base is more Slate. Some rainbow gems finish it off.

Thanks for stopping by!
